Wind energy investment to reach $820bn by 2017 :
Wind power is second only to hydropower as the renewable energy of choice for lowering global carbon emissions and meeting clean energy demands in many countries. Investment in the wind sector is tipped to reach a staggering cumulative $820 billion globally by 2017, according to a recent report. No longer considered an adjunct technology, wind power is providing up to one-fifth of energy supplies in some countries, and while the global economic slowdown affected the sector in 2010, the report states turbine deployment activity remains strong and overall capacity will continue to rise at a healthy pace over the next six years.
